3 days Workshop in Costa Rica, 13-15 November 2023, on the designation of Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSA) on the High Seas.
SARGADOM team attended the ‘High Seas Treaty Symposium – from negotiation to implementation’ on 6-7 October 2023 in Edinburgh, UK.
End of June, the SARGADOM project hosted its second steering committee meeting in conjunction with the IUCN high seas ABMTs workshop in Gland, Switzerland.
Adopted in Montreal last 19 December 2022, the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework includes several objectives and targets that cover the Ocean and coasts and aimed at transforming the way these ecosystems are managed. Their implementation however raises many challenges and requires, in particular, to integrate the GBF into intergovernmental marine-related organisations and to pay special attention to the high seas.
The fifth edition of the IMPAC5 Congress dedicated to Marine Protected Areas took place in Vancouver from 3 to 9 February 2022 under the auspices of IUCN.
The Our Ocean Conferences were created to build partnerships between government, industry, science and civil society. Voluntary commitments are the core of the Our Ocean conferences, created to generate significant and meaningful actions towards a clean, healthy and productive ocean.
SARGADOM attended the new round of negotiations on an international legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction.
From June 27 to July 1, 2022, the SARGADOM team headed to Portugal to promote the project and contribute to roundtable discussions at the United Nations Ocean 2022 conference.
